Babylon Salon is a community of performers, readers, writers, imbibers (of spirits and spirit), and revelers. From published authors to up and coming writers, from the contemplative to the percussive, from the long-form poet to the chainsaw juggler, from the quiet literary aficionado to the participative audience member, Babylon Salon is a reading and performance series that brings together all of these people and more in a celebration of expression, life, the arts and each other. We welcome new audience members and artists to enjoy and participate in our events. The people behind Babylon Salon are:

Timothy Crandle, co-founder and host, is the winner of the 2009 Waasmode Prize from Passages North, the Jack Dyer Fiction Prize for 2009 from Crab Orchard Review and the second prize winner in the 11th Annual Zoetrope: All-Story Short Fiction Contest (where his work was selected from over 2500 entries by Joyce Carol Oates).

Timothy B. Rien, co-founder and host, holds an MFA from the University of San Francisco, was a Finalist in Glimmer Train’s Short Story Award for New Writers, and the H.E. Francis Literary Award, University of Alabama. His work has appeared twice in Cutthroat,  A Journal of the Arts—most recently winning the Rick DeMarinis Award for short fiction, and has been anthologized in Wine Country Literary HarvestHe is an Assistant Editor for Narrative Magazine.

Laurie Ann Doyle, host and organizer, has had her short stories and essays appeard in Dogwood Journal, The Farallon Review, Quality Fiction, Stone's Throw Magazine and The Express. Her work has been nominated for Best New American Voices and selected as a finalist in New Letters’ and The Writing Site fiction contests. She earned an MFA at the University of San Francisco and teaches writing at U.C. Berkeley.
