| The event featured Kate Brady, Craig Perez, Bellevue Literary Review featured writer MaryLee McNeal, Dietlind Vander Schaaf and Arthur Patterson Kate Brady's short story collection Curled in the Bed of Love was the co-winner of the 2002 Flannery O’Connor Award for Short Fiction. Her first collection, The End of the Class War, was a finalist for the 1999 Western States Book Award in Fiction. Her stories have appeared in Best American Short Stories 2004 and numerous literary journals. She is the author of the biography Elizabeth Blackburn and the Story of Telomeres: Deciphering the Ends of DNA (MIT Press, 2007). Her next book, The Mechanics of Falling, will be published by The University of Nevada Press in February 2009. This collection deals with characters who must decide what they are willing to risk for the sake of transformation--or for the right to refuse it. She teaches in the MFA in Writing Program at the University of San Francisco. Poetry The evening included a performance by poet Craig Perez of Achiote Press. Craig is the author of the book from unincorporated territory.
Featured Literary Publication Our featured literary publication was Bellevue Literary Review, a journal of "humanity and the human experience" that publishes works of fiction, nonfiction and poetry that touch upon relationships to the human body, illness, health and healing. Bellevue Literary Review editor, Suzanne McConnell, presented writer MaryLee McNeal, who read from her work. Up and Coming Writers San Francisco writers Dietlind Vander Schaaf and Arthur Patterson also read from their work. |
